CBS Fails

If there is one thing I hate, it’s discrimination.  There is absolutely no reason that people should ever discriminate against another person just because of their race, sexual orientation, beliefs or ANY other reason.

So it may not surprise you that I was a little miffed after hearing that Chris Matthews – after hearing President Obama’s speech – said he “forgot he was black.” Amazing, isn’t it?  No… the fact that President Obama is black has nothing to do with the reason people disagree with everything he says.  Not at all.  But that isn’t what this post is about.  This post is about the way that CBS has failed.

CBS told the Gay Matchmaking website ManCrunch.com that they would not be accepting their commercial for use during the Super Bowl.  The commercial shows two men watching a football game, their hands brush in the chip bowl, and it leads to them making out.

Now, how many times do you see male-female making out on television?  Let me rephrase that; how many times do you NOT see male-female making out on television?  Obviously, it happens plenty of times.  So why is CBS denying a homosexual commercial?

CBS, of course, has stuck their foot in their mouth.  They claim first that,

“After reviewing the ad, which is entirely commercial in nature, our standards and practices department decided not to accept this particular spot,”

And then later said that it was because of “financial reasons” that they denied the commercial.  Sorry, CBS, we now know you’re just another homophobic group.

Sad.

  1. Of course if it was female-female it would be aired in a heartbeat. So, no not Homophobic, but I can’t think of the word. Other than sexist.

  2. I’m not so sure. It may be more likely that they would air a lesbian make out scene, but I think that they would rather not. I am sure people are thinking, “They aren’t airing a Go Daddy commercial, either!” but Go Daddy likes to push the envelope with nudity, there’s a slight difference.

But you may be right. Maybe it’s sexist-homophobic based 😛
